Levator Scapulae

Levator Scapulae Stretch for Desk Workers

Hours spent at a desk can lead employees to remain in the same neck and shoulder position for extended periods.

The levator scapulae connects the neck and shoulder blade and is one of the muscles that can become tight with prolonged positioning.

How to Do the Levator Scapulae Stretch

  1. Sit upright with your shoulders relaxed.

  2. Place one hand behind your back to help keep the shoulder down.

  3. Rotate your head toward the opposite shoulder.

  4. Gently look downward.

  5. Think about directing your nose toward the opposite armpit.

  6. Stop when you feel a comfortable stretch through the back and side of your neck.

Suggested duration: 3 rounds of 30 seconds on each side.

Keep the movement gentle and controlled.

Stretching Is Only Part of the Picture

If employees repeatedly return to a poorly configured workstation after stretching, the same positioning may continue throughout the day.

That's why Workplace Kinetics combines employee stretching with workplace ergonomic assessments and education.

Our team works with Dallas–Fort Worth employers to evaluate workstations, provide personalized recommendations and help employees develop healthier movement habits at work.
