Piriformis

Seated Piriformis Stretch for Desk Workers

The piriformis is a small muscle located deep within the hip. When employees spend much of the workday sitting, the hips remain in a relatively static position for extended periods.

A seated piriformis stretch provides a simple way to change that position without needing a gym or dedicated workout space.

How to Do the Seated Piriformis Stretch

  1. Sit securely in your chair.

  2. Place one ankle across the opposite leg.

  3. Gently lower the raised knee.

  4. For a deeper stretch, lean slightly forward from your waist.

  5. Stop when you feel a comfortable stretch through the hip.

Suggested duration: 3 rounds of 30 seconds on each side.

Avoid forcing the knee downward. The stretch should remain comfortable and controlled.
